CLASS was honoured to attend the recently concluded IFRRO Asia Pacific Committee Meeting 2026, graciously co-hosted by the Japan Academic Association for Copyright Clearance (JAC), the Japan Publishers Copyright Organization (JCOPY), the Public Interest Incorporated Association Japan Reproduction Rights Center (JRRC) and the Japan Book Publishers Association (JBPA).
Delegates were joined by key experts from the local community, Satoshi Hatta, Director, Office for Promoting Works Distribution, Copyright Division, Agency for Cultural Affairs, and Kensaku Fukui, Lawyer, Kotto Dori Law Office, JPMAC Legal Advisory Team, as they provided insight into the current affairs concerning Japan’s publishing industry. Additionally, a whole host of topics regarding copyright protection and awareness were deliberated, from issues concerning the opportunities and challenges of commercial licensing, to matters pertaining to the economic contribution of publishing in the Asia-Pacific region and AI Governance and Regulation, being discussed in great detail.
A thoroughly engaging conference, delegates walked away better equipped with knowledge on what was necessary to ensure their respective CMOs continue to thrive amidst modern challenges.
