COPYRIGHT Licensing and Administration Society of Singapore (CLASS) is pleased to announce the winners of the inaugural Copyright School Challenge 2021 video competition.

Organised in partnership with the Singapore Book Publishers Association (SBPA) and supported by MUSE, the Copyright School Challenge was launched in April 2021 in conjunction with the World Copyright Day.

This competition was open to students in Singapore from secondary schools and tertiary institutions in two respective categories. Participants had to produce and create a 1-minute video on the theme “Why Copyright Matters”.

Held on 1 October 2021 virtually due to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic, the 45-minute award ceremony was streamed live over Zoom and Facebook and was attended by over a hundred viewers as well as multiple award-winning guest judge Mr Eric Khoo.

“With the advancement of technology, students are consuming and sharing more information than ever before,” Mr. Andrew Fong, CLASS CEO, commented in his opening address as he shared about the importance of copyright and our student’s role in it.

He added, “You (students) encounter and engage with copyrighted works every day. It is likely that almost all of the book presentations, digital and hard copy materials that you (students) use in your classrooms, research, and studies are copyrighted materials. Copyright is becoming an essential element because now, everyone is a publisher”.

Mr Fong also took the opportunity to encourage all students to now be Copyright Ambassadors in their schools and communities and help share their newfound knowledge.
