About the Competition
The Creative Writing Competition is aimed at inspiring primary school students to write as well as empower them to express their creative thoughts and opinions through poetry or as an essay. The competition has two separate categories: Essay Writing and Poetry Writing.

>> Poetry writing opens to Primary 5 & Primary 6 students
Thee closing for all submissions is on 7 April 2023. The winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony in 27 May 2023.
Theme
Entries are based on the theme: PLAY.
For example, you can write about a favourite game, hobby or something you enjoy doing. Share with us your best, or most memorable moments, experiences or activities. Take part in the competition by submitting a poem or short essay!
Format for Creative Writing
The submission for creative writing must be in English. All entries must have the following word counts: maximum 300 words (for P3 students) and maximum 400 words (for P4 students). Title not included in the word count. The font must be in either Arial or Times New Roman, 12pt, black. Double spaced.
Format for Poetry Writing:
The submissions for the poetry writing category must be written in English. The poem should not exceed more than 20 lines, excluding the title. The font must be in either Arial or Times New Roman, 12pt, black. Double spaced.
The author’s name should be included anywhere in the document or the file name. No illustrations should be included as part of the entry. You may submit the poem as either a Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or pdf file
Prize for Top 3 Winners (for each category)
> 1st Prize -S500 + Trophy
> 2nd Prize -$300 + Trophy
> 3rd Prize -$200 + Trophy
Submissions of entries have closed (as of 7 May 2023). The prize presentation ceremony will be held in May 2023. More details will be shared including the finalists.
Poetry Writing Workshop (25 Feb @ 10am-12pm)
Bring out your inner wordsmith and learn the basics of creating simple, yet impactful poetry in this workshop facilitated by Singapore poet and singer, ArunDitha. You will be introduced to the different forms of poetry, and receive guidance and tips on writing your own personal piece. All P5 and P6 students are invited to participate in this online workshop, organized by the Singapore Book Council as part of the Creative Writing Competition co-organised with CLASS and ilovereading.sg.

Essay Writing Workshop (13 Mar 2023 @ 10am-12pm)
In conjunction with the Copyright School Challenge 2023, ilovereading.sg will be running a creative writing workshop for Primary 3 and Primary 4 students. This workshop will provide you with ideas, hacks, and tips on writing creative essays, based on ilovereading.sg’s Storytime magazine.

Terms and Conditions
> All registration and entries must be filled and submitted by the parents, teachers or guardians of the entrants (student or child). Each participant can submit only one entry, and manuscripts must be in Microsoft Words or pdf.
> Participants (students) must submit their entries by Friday, 31 March 2023. All submissions must be via the online form through the student’s teacher or parent/guardian.
> Only entries that are duly received by us by the closing date (31 March 2023) will be eligible for the Competition. We cannot accept responsibility for entries that are lost, delayed or damaged and proof of sending an online entry is not proof that we received it.
> All entries must be an original piece and developed by the student or child. The entries must not have been published on any other forms of media (including the internet, social media, newspapers, and school publications). Entries must not have been submitted for any other contests before.
> The poetry writing and essay writing workshops are free of charge for registered participants of the competition.
> Any entries containing excerpts, translations, or plagiarism, infringing on others’ copyrights, will be disqualified and rendered invalid. Revocation of any award and return of prizes will be required.
> All personal information including contact details must be provided and accurate. The registrants will be contactable via email and/ or phone for the purpose of the competition only.
> Prize-winning entries are subject to publication, distribution, and promotion by the Organiser without prior notification.
> The decision of the judges is final, and no discussion will be entered in relation to their decision.
Winners will be announced during the awards ceremony in May (date will be shared later). Parents/guardians and teachers including the entrant must be present for the ceremony to receive the prize.
